Intakes in the USA

  • Universities in the USA generally have two intakes - Fall and Spring. The Fall intake, which starts in August or September, is the primary intake for most programs and attracts a larger number of international students. 
  • The Spring intake, beginning in January, offers a smaller range of courses but still provides opportunities for enrollment.
  • The Fall intake is recommended for international students as it aligns with the academic year and offers a wider selection of courses and campus activities while the Spring intake is recommended for students needing more time for preparations or are looking for a specific program availability
 

Student Visa Requirements for USA

Students aspiring to study in the USA should ensure to fulfil the following eligibility criteria to be eligible for the F-1 student visa. 

  • Be enrolled in a full-time educational program, language training program or a vocational course at an institution approved by the Student and Exchange Visitors Program, Immigration & Customs Enforcement
  • Be proficient in English or enrolled in courses that culminates in English proficiency 
  • Have and show proof of sufficient funds available for self-support during the entire course of study

How to apply?

  • Acceptance from a SEVP-Certified Institution: Students must first apply and receive an acceptance letter from a U.S. educational institution certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
  • I-20 Form: Once accepted, the institution will issue an I-20 form, which is a document necessary for the visa application. The I-20 certifies that the student has been accepted to a SEVP-certified institution and has sufficient funds to cover their education and living expenses in the USA.
  • SEVIS Fee: Students are required to pay the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee before their visa interview.
  • Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application: Students need to complete the online Nonimmigrant Visa Application (DS-160) and schedule an appointment for a visa interview at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate in their home country.
  • Visa Interview: During the visa interview, students must present their I-20 form, valid passport, DS-160 confirmation page, SEVIS fee receipt, financial documentation, and any additional documents as requested by the consular officer. The interview would be an assessment of the student's genuine intention to study in the USA and their ability to fund their education.
