Student Visa Requirements for Malaysia
International students planning to study in Malaysia are required to obtain a student visa, also known as a student pass. Here are the key requirements and the application process:
- Offer Letter from a Recognized Institution:
Obtain an acceptance letter from a recognised Malaysian educational institution. This letter confirms your admission to a course of study.
- Financial Proof:
Provide evidence of sufficient funds to cover tuition fees and living expenses throughout your stay in Malaysia. This is usually your bank statements or a financial sponsorship letter.
- Medical Examination:
Undergo a medical examination in your home country at an authorised medical centre. The results will be submitted along with your visa application.
- Visa Application Form:
Complete the Student Pass application form (IMM.47), which can be obtained from the Malaysian Embassy or Consulate in your home country or downloaded online from their official website.
- Passport:
Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Malaysia.
- Passport-size Photographs:
Provide multiple passport-sized photographs according to the specifications provided by the Malaysian Embassy or Consulate.
- Visa Application Fee:
Pay the student pass fee and visa fee depending on the duration of the course and your stay in the country. Generally, a student pass costs RM60.00 per year or part thereof, and a student visa rate not exceeding RM50.00 for each visa issued.
- Visa Approval Letter (VAL):
Before travelling to Malaysia, you need to obtain a Visa Approval Letter (VAL) from the Immigration Department of Malaysia, which can be obtained through your chosen institution.
Documents required:
Prepare the following documents while applying for a Malaysian student visa
- Support letter ( Ministry of Education / Department of Skill Development)
- Offer letter from schools / higher education institutions/ language centre/training centre
- Two (2) sets of Form Imm.14
- Two (2) sets of passport copies/travel documents
- Passport-size photos (as many as required)
- Personal Bond form (stamped)
Application Process:
Acceptance and VAL: On receiving an acceptance letter from a Malaysian institution, the chosen institution will assist you in obtaining the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) from the Immigration Department.
Visa Application: Complete the Student Pass application form (IMM.47) and submit it along with all the required documents to the nearest Malaysian Embassy or Consulate in Indonesia.
Medical Examination: Undergo a medical examination at an authorised medical centre and obtain the necessary health clearance certificate.
Visa Approval: The processing time for the student visa typically takes a few weeks. Once approved, you will receive a visa sticker on your passport.
Arrival in Malaysia: Upon arrival in Malaysia, undergo a medical screening at the designated International Student Office, post which you can apply for and obtain a Student Pass from the Immigration Department within 30 days.
